It also has anti-inflammatory effects in the bowel.Metronidazole is an anti-protozoal agent effective against Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica and in giardiasis. Metronidazole is useful for the treatment of infections caused by various anaerobic bacteria, particularly Bacteroides fragilis.
